The Conexiones 2011 Annual Awards recognizing Hispanic high school seniors in Howard County, Maryland closed on February 26. Awardees will be announced soon.

Café Cultura y Mucho Azúcar

Cafe, Cultura y Mucho Azucar Café, Cultura y Mucho Azucar!, an evening of music and dance, sample desserts and coffee from our Hispanic Heritage was held on October 15, 2010 at 7pm at Long Reach High School.

Entertainment by Cima Talent Management and Savage Dance Company. All proceeds support the Conexiones Awards Program.

End of Year Picnic

On June 17, 2010, Conexiones sponsored an end-of-year picnic  at Meadowbrook Park in Ellicott City, MD.  Over 100 middle school and high school students from Hispanic student clubs across the county enjoyed a grand afternoon of futbol, food, and fun.

Elisa Montalvo Honored

Elisa Montalvo, the Hispanic Achievement Specialist for the Howard County Public School System and liaison to Conexiones, was honored by the Horizon Foundation for work with Hispanic community. See the article in the Baltimore Sun and the Press Release by the Horizon Foundation.

Eighth Annual “American Success Award” on May 4th Honors Conexiones Board Member Gus Mendez

On May 4, the 8th Annual American Success Awards dinner honored Howard County’s foreign-born business and community Dr. Kim B. Kim and Dr. Miyong Kim, Luis Gustavo Mendez, and Zack H. Shariff for their outstanding contributions to the county’s economy and the community.

The award, presented by FIRN in partnership with the Howard County Government, Howard County Economic Development Authority and the Howard County Chamber of Commerce, recognizes foreign-born individuals who live or work in Howard County and have made a significant contribution to either their ethnic or general communities.  Award winners have distinguished themselves by either owning a successful Howard County business or achieving a high level of success in his or her chosen profession.

Dr. Murray Simon Receives the Pat Hatch Award from FIRNDr. Murray Simon Receives the Pat Hatch Award from the Foreign Born Information and Referral Network -FIRN.

In a ceremony on Novermber 7th at the Columbia Spear Center, Murray is joined at the podium by Pat Hatch, the founder of FIRN, Nestor Benavides, President of FIRN, and Jennifer Blake, Executive Director.

The Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs, selected Conexiones to receive a 2009 Governor’s Hispanic Heritage Award. Conexiones was honored at the Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards Ceremony and Luncheon on September 29, 2009.
